HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Dear NACHI Members,

As 2007 begins, we’d like to thank you for your participation in (and support of) our organization. The past year has been filled with challenges, innovations and tremendous growth, and we’re delighted by the invaluable input we’ve received from so many of our members. From a personal perspective, it’s been an honor for me to serve as your NACHI News editor, and I look forward to working with you closely in the months ahead to raise the bar for the home inspection profession even higher.

On behalf of Nick and the entire NACHI family, we wish you a safe, happy and prosperous new year!

All the best!
Eric Badofsky

InterNACHI President Named

NACHI is pleased to announce the appointment of Kenton Shepard as President of the International Association of Certified Inspectors (InterNACHI).

Mr. Shepard is a founding member of NACHI Colorado, a Certified Master Inspector, and has been an enthusiastic participant in InterNACHI from the very beginning. An inspection professional since 2001, Kenton owns Peak to Prairie Inspection Services based in Boulder, and has authored three English/Spanish phrase books for the building trades. Currently, he’s busy working with InterNACHI's webmaster building a new multi-lingual website (details to follow).

Real Estate Rebound in ’07?

Doug Duncan, chief economist for the Mortgage Bankers Association, expects the 30-year mortgage rate to hover around 6.5 percent for the remainder of the year, but gradually climb to 6.8 percent by the end of 2007. Duncan is "optimistic about a rebound" in the housing market next year, citing still-low long-term interest rates, robust capital expenditures, and rising equity prices, among other factors.

Meanwhile, the National Association of REALTORS® expects existing-home sales to slip to just above 6.4 million in 2007 from an estimated 6.47 million this year. But a pullback in construction will spark an 8.7-percent decline in new-home sales to 975,000 from 1.07 million over the same time span. They further forecast median resale prices to edge up 1.7 percent to $227,500 next year, with median new-home prices climbing 1.3 percent, to $241,400.
